The demands of being in the business events industry have, for a long time, been a bedrock for leadership skills to be nurtured and cultivated. But for such a skill set to flourish, mental fitness is essential. Mental fitness, according to CBT psychologists, is a state of well-being and having a positive sense of how we feel, think, and act, and the ability to cope with and meet the psychological demands of life, without undue fatigue or damage to the mind or body.

In this reflective, no-holds-barred episode of BEAM FORWARD, we speak with Oscar Cerezales, Global Executive VP Corporate Division at MCI Group. He shares his thoughts about building mental fitness, how he never plans for anything in life (sometimes, that is the best plan), about the different masks everyone wears to cope with situations, and how his life experiences have brought him to where he is today.

To Cerezales, mental fitness is about creating space in the mind, not adding more content. When it comes to creating simplicity in chaos, he says, “Do we plan for tomorrow or a year ahead? It is probably both, and it is complicated. It is about playing and managing uncertainty and inconsistencies because there’s a lot of lack of visibility, whether you like it or not. There is no methodology, book or processes on how to tackle the current situation.”
