Whether it is uninvited, undeserved or unwarranted, workplace bullying is more common than you might think. According to the Workplace Bullying Institute, bullying is “repeated, health-harming mistreatment of one or more persons (the targets) by one or more perpetrators.”

The abusive conduct—including verbal abuse—is intimidating, threatening, or humiliating to the target. It can, and often does, interfere with the target’s ability to get their work done.

In this episode of BEAM FORWARD, we speak to Lisa Hopkins, Chief Executive Officer at Conventions & Incentives New Zealand (CINZ). She talks to us about identifying the different types of bullying and how women can support other women through that experience.

Hopkins shares with us firsthand experience of bullying and how to deal with and overcome such an experience. In this unprecedented time, she says the last thing that should be happening is companies, customers or vendors taking advantage of vulnerable people going through a tough time.

“Bullying is all about power. What’s worse is when another woman is bullying you. Women need to remember that what we contribute every single day is of the highest value. We hold so much within ourselves in the way we carry ourselves and communicate our creative thoughts and ideas. There is no need for anyone to make us feel down or low or bad,” Hopkins says.
