Thai business event powerhouses to incubate 150 young leaders aged 17-25. Eleven teams of young leaders will be supported by mentors from SITE Thailand and TCEB, along with curated online resources for sustainable development.

The Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE), Thailand chapter, in collaboration with the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) and the College of Innovation Thammasat University (CITU), are hosting the SITE Thailand M&I Sustainability Advocate Project 2022 to come up with sustainability practice ideas for the Meetings & Incentive Travel community in Thailand.

One hundred fifty young leaders aged 17-25 will become the second class of SITE Thailand Sustainability Ambassador. The project started on November 11 and runs until November 29, 2022, when the young ambassadors will present their ideas virtually at the M&I Sustainability Forum.

Max Boontawee Jantasuwan, SITE Thailand President, reveals that sustainability is one of the key developmental paths of the SITE community in over 90 countries. “We would like to take this initiative proactively in Thailand and the region. This project is one of our legacies to remind the new generation in our industry to have a great awareness of sustainability.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the TCEB MICE Capabilities Development Department for the support and for being the sponsor and SITE Thailand Sustainability Strategic Partner for the second consecutive year. We aim to maintain this cordial relationship for many more years to come.

“This particular year is special as SITE Thailand has signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the College of Innovation, Thammasart University, so we are co-creating and organising with the professional team of the college and our team. Additionally, we have got great mentors from the industry who will realistically shape the ideas of the 11 teams, so they know whether their ideas will work and can improve as they are working on the assignment. I strongly believe that this project will create a new trend in sustainable development.

Orachon Wongpan-ngam, Director of MICE Capabilities Development Department, TCEB, the sponsor and strategic sustainability partner, adds that the bureau would like to encourage the next generation of the workforce to become the sustainability ambassador for the MICE industry as the core practice for our business.

“Currently, most corporates are looking for a destination and business partners with a solid background in sustainability practices in organising sustainable events. TCEB will empower the younger generation to step up and create new solutions for our industry.”

Assistant Professor Chayakrit Asvathitanont, Dean of the College of Innovation, Thammasat University, the project’s co-creator, says, “ As an educational institute, CITU has attached great importance to the instilling of innovative and sustainable mindset into our graduates and personnel. The M&I Sustainability Advocate project is co-organised to form and shape a new generation of leaders who appreciate and focus on sustainability. This programme will not only equip young leaders with valuable lessons on sustainability practices but also give us the inspiration to enhance growth and development in Thailand’s MICE industry.

SITE Thailand M&I Sustainability Advocate Project 2022 will present 11 teams of young leaders incubating 11 ideas for sustainable practices in incentive trips within 10 MICE cities. They will be supported by mentors from SITE Thailand and TCEB, along with curated online resources for sustainable development.
